Frequently Asked Questions | Snow Pants

Are snow pants or bibs better?

When tossing up between snow pants or snow bibs it's important to make sure that whatever you choose keeps you warm, dry and comfortable.

Snow bibs do a great job of keeping the snow out, no matter how many epic falls you have. Plus, they pull off the steezy look quicker than Tess Coady in a slopestyle comp.

Alternatively, snow pants are a great option for that traditional ski get-up. Practically, they are also easier to get on and off. A winning benefit when nature calls.

What to wear under snow pants?

Merino base layers under snow pants are a match made in pow-day heaven. Merino thermals are thermogenic, breathable and odour-resistant (a practical benefit when you skip the shower for apres).

Another thing we’ve found is that high-tech, high-quality products don’t need to add plastics and emissions to the world, making Merino a natural choice for us.

Can snow pants be used as rain pants?

Snow pants can be used as rain pants since they are designed to be waterproof, however they can be bulkier and heavier. This is because they are often designed with insulation to combat cold conditions.

If you’re looking for rain pants, pull on the Styx Rain Pant. Perfect for wet conditions no matter how high or low the thermometer reads.

Should snow pants be loose or tight?

The choice to wear snow pants loose or tight comes down to your own preferences; you do you. Traditionally, ski pants are more fitted whereas freestyle snow pants are worn on the looser side.

You can find the perfect fit by taking a peek at our size guide.

Do snow pants need to be washed?

Yes, you can wash snow pants. Do they “need” to be washed? That’s up to you and your hygiene standards. Our recommendation. Don’t over wash. It’s good for your gear and the planet.

When your pants need a little rejuvenation, make sure to wash on cold and use a snow gear specific wash, like NikWax. That way your snow pants will stand the test of time.
